April '14 • Brooklyn Blooming

Sunday, April 27, 2014

Ah, Brooklyn. I don't get a chance to go down to Brooklyn often, but my visits there are always enjoyable and quite calm (contrary to busy downtown). On this day, I went to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden to see cherry blossom trees in bloom! Of course, the place was packed with people, but nonetheless, the trees and flowers were beautiful. Only in the spring, we fully appreciate the beauty of the flowers so I try to make the best effort to see cherry blossoms every spring. And it just felt so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and escape to nature.

Yes, guys, I am wearing the same floppy hat from my previous post, but I love this hat and it was appropriate for the weather/occasion. This is another festival-ish look, now that I think about it! I am wearing a Zara tank and Cotton On skirt, keeping it comfy and simple. Oh, I have a confession to make. I can only wear baggy bottoms for right now because I scraped my knees pretty badly a couple of days ago (High heel problems)...Yeup. Really painful and gross, but let's not get into detail about it. I am a skinny jeans type person, and it's depressing that I can't throw on my favorite American Apparel Easy Jeans and go out the door because those pants brush against the pants. Ugh. Hopefully, it will heal soon.

Hope you guys are having a fantastic day!

School work has been pretty intense for the past couple of weeks, but this weekend isn't as hectic, so I wanted to make the best of it by heading to the MoMA! MoMA, or the Museum of Modern Art, has great collections of modern art ranging from contemporary paintings to photographs to sculptures. Picasso, Monet, and Warhol are just some of the many artists that contributed to the museum collection. The museum is free for NYU students (which is awesome!), but the tickets themselves are not expensive at all so it's definitely worth checking out it you're ever in the area! The contemporary paintings were familiar to me, but what I really enjoyed seeing were the weird and cool sculptures all around the museum and the outdoor area.

My outfit looks festival-ish because of the floppy hat and the flowy top, but hey, if you can't go to a festival, at least dress like you're going, right? I think the Mom jeans go well with the girly wedges and make the look more polished, which I am pleased with :)

Last two week stretch and then I'm back in California! Hoping for a memorable summer, but in the mean time, I am going to work my ass off to finish strong this semester!

April '14 • Bowery and Hologram, Oh my!

Monday, April 21, 2014

New York is looking beautiful these days with clear skies and warm weather! Although finals are approaching my way, I decided to leave my room for the day and enjoy the outdoors with my suitemate. I have been wanting to go to the Bowery Mural on Bowery and E Houston Street (because murals are always cool, right? ) so we headed there after our lovely lunch at Curry Ya on 2nd Ave. Various artists over the years have created their version of the mural here and this time around, artists Maya Hayuk created her signature style on this wall. It wasn't as big as I thought it was, but nonetheless, very pretty and colorful! I toned down my outfit to simple pieces because I did not want to clash with the colorful mural. I wore my new white Zara shoes, which I love to death, but I'm still working them in, so I definitely acquired some blisters...Ouch. I'm also holding my new American Apparel Hologram Clutch for my simple outing outfit! I know I won't be able to post as much in the next few weeks because of school, but bear with me and I promise I'll post lots of fun things for the up coming summer!

April '14 • Insta Recap

Saturday, April 19, 2014

Instagram is one of my favorite social media platform and I am constantly going on it to browse other people's fashion and lifestyle photos. These are some of my insta pics from the past month that did not make it on to the blog, so here it is!

1) Captain America OOTD: I watched a late night showing of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" a couple of weeks ago, and I loved it! I really enjoy watching all Marvel superhero movies and the Universe they created with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and all that good stuff!

2)Mille-Feuille Macaroons: These yummy macaroons are from a cute little bakery near my school. I am pretty addicted to these tiny pastries and can't get enough of them!

3) "It's a little warmer": A typical school outfit. I adore these trousers because I don't have anything like it and it fits nicely on my body. It felt just a teeny bit warmer than usual that day, so I ditched the coat and went for the fuzzy cardigan! ...Now that I'm looking at this outfit, everything is from H&M haha!

4) Shiny Things: My recent purchases...I love both items so much! The pointed toe white moccasins are from Zara and I'm still breaking them in (painful) but it's worth the investment because I don't own anything like this. The hologram clutch is another item that is very unique and gorgeous--it is from American Apparel.

Sorry I've been slacking on the posting...finals season is coming fast and I'm swamped with schoolwork and newspaper work! But, summer is in a month and I promise I'll have lots more to post about when I get back to the West Coast!

I would be lying if I said I wasn't addicted to macaroons. I really can't get enough of those yummy French pastries and on this day, I visited the original French macaroon place--Laduree! A Soho store opened up very recently and I've been waiting to visit the store for the longest time, but the weather was so nice and warm and I decided to head down there on a whim on a Friday afternoon. There is one other Laduree store in New York, which is located Uptown, but my friend informed me that the Soho one is larger and sells other bakery goods besides macaroons. Did you know, Laduree pastries are all made from France and imported to the New York locations? That's why it's so expensive (I think it was $21 for a box of six macaroons?) but it was SO good! The cake that I had and the macaroons were so decadent and rich...it was just heaven in my mouth, guys! Plus, the interior of the store was very beautiful and almost ethereal in a way with the sky patterned ceilings and the wall of macaroons!

This outfit was just something I threw on--I'm wearing my new newsboy cap from Urban Outfitters Sale and also sporting another new item, which is my blue flare skirt from Forever 21. Oh, and yes, I have a band-aid on my chin because I scratched myself and saw blood...But it's all good! (It's healing haha)

April '14 • Meeting Jenn Im from Clothes Encounters

Friday, April 11, 2014

This past Tuesday (4/8), my all time favorite Youtuber, Jenn Im from Clothes Encounters, had a meet up at the 7 for All Mankind store in Soho. I absolutely adore Jenn for her fashion and style (of course) and her oh so charming personality. I actually met her once before when she had a meet up in the City last September and I remember being so starstruck at how pretty and sweet she was. This time around, I decided to write her a fan letter (this is how much I love her, guys) which you can see me holding it in the second picture of me, Jenn, and my friends. Again, she was incredibly sweet and we had a small talk about how my boyfriend, Justin, met her once too in San Francisco. What a small world, huh?

I've been following Jenn for about a year now, but I mush have watched her fashion videos a million times. I find myself getting inspired from her outfits and tips and I'll always support her in whatever she does as a loyal fan :) All you Jenn Im lovers out there! Leave me a comment and let me know so we can fangirl over her together!

April '14 • Eye See Your Derp Face

Friday, April 4, 2014

So 50+ degrees in the City...I am BEYOND excited that winter has finally moved on and spring is here! To celebrate the warmth, I donned the sheer tights look with my new Zara dress from my recent haul. I think the length of the dress hits my body nicely and I definitely received lots of compliments about it on this day! I still layered with a fuzzy cardigan from H&M and acid wash jean jacket from Forever 21 because it gets chilly under the shade. For the staple school look, I wore my leather snapback on my head and comfy boots on my feet.

Funny thing about these pictures--I've been at my school for almost two years now, but I never bothered to take pictures in front of the signature arc in Washington Square Park. Well, I can check that off my list of things to do at NYU now.

April '14 • Flash HAUL

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Happy April! It's been a while since I've posted, but I am back with a quick haul. Here are a couple things I've picked up within the month of March so let's get started.

ZARA Eye Printed Dress- This dress is my most recent purchase, and I can't wait to wear it out because it's such a unique piece! The fabric of the dress is sturdy so it holds the silhouette, and it also has a mock turtleneck, which give it a "space-age" vibe. The powder blue is a great color for this spring and it is overall a great statement item.

H&M Melange Cardigan- I bought this cardigan because I had a 25% off coupon for H&M. At first, I thought this cardigan was unnecessary because I already own so many black and grey cardigans, but I'm glad I picked it up because it's a perfect cover-up for the chilly spring days. I don't have too many speckled knits, and I've really been drawn to them lately! I also like the 3/4 length sleeves because it doesn't feel like I'm drowning in my own clothes.

H&M Slacks- I bought these pants because I wanted to venture more into wearing different bottoms other than jeans. I really like the fit of these slacks, but the waist part is a little tight for me in order to get that nice fit (I got a size 2). These pants look great dressed up or down with t-shirts, knit sweaters, etc.

UO BDG Mom Jeans- I am in love with my mom jeans! I got these pants earlier in March and I've been wearing them nonstop because it's comfortable and cute at the same time (I wore these in my 'Spring Break in LA' post). It's definitely a step away from the boyfriend/skinny trend and I like the mom jean fit because it's not too baggy or too skinny. Plus, black bottoms go with anything and I can make so many different and fun outfits with these!

MAC Candy Yum Yum & NARS Heatwave- I've been trying out more lipsticks recently and I picked up Candy Yum Yum from MAC and Heatwave from NARS this month. Candy Yum Yum is a matte lipstick so it doesn't look shiny on the lips. It's almost neon pink and very pigmented so it can stain the lips after you wear it, but I think the color stains/fades nicely so I have no problem with it. It's a spring, more like summer shade so I'll be wearing it a lot this summer! Heatwave is a semi-matte red orange lipstick perfect for literally any kind of skin tone. It's vibrant, yet wearable for everyday and it also fades gracefully throughout the day.

I think I'm going to start posting regularly on Mondays and Fridays so be sure to stop by for new posts! Love you all and thanks for reading!
